In the present study the CFD-DEM in conjunction with the Eulerian-Lagrangian method was used to simulate a pseudo 2D spouted bed including coarse 6 mm particles. The open source OpenFOAM code was used for solving the governing equations. The predicted vertical particle velocity along the bed axis, particle velocity profiles in the radial direction, power spectral density (PSD), the time-averaged particle velocity vectors, bed pressure drop, and solid flow pattern were evaluated and compared with the experimental data of Zhang et al. [Zhang, H., Liu, M., Li, T., Huang, Z., Sun, X., Bo, H., Dong, Y. (2017). Experimental investigation on gas-solid hydrodynamics of coarse particles in a two-dimensional spouted bed. Powder Technology 307, 175-183]. Good agreement between the CFD-DEM results and the measured data was found. It was also shown that the present CFD-DEM model accurately predicted the particle flow pattern throughout the bed. It was found that the drag force and solid stresses, as well as, gravity play important roles in CFD-DEM simulation of spouted bed of coarse particles
