In some countries, including Iran, there are tastes for consumption of viscera especially liver and kidney. The dog carcass has unsanitary nature and its consumption is forbidden in Islam. The objective of this research was to apply the comparative anatomy as a convenient way to distinguishing of viscera between sheep and dogs. In this research, we used samples from 3 dog and 3 sheep carcasses showing no signs of pathology. After dissection, by referring to veterinary anatomy reference books, all comparative characteristics of heart, kidney, lung and liver in these two animals were extracted and finally these components were used to differentiate sheep viscera from dogs. A- Comparative characteristics of the heart: In this section, all the anatomical and morphological characteristics of the heart between two animals are examined. B- Comparative characteristics of kidneys: In this section, all anatomical and morphological characteristics of kidneys between two animals have been studied. C- Comparative characteristics of lungs: In this section, all the anatomical and morphological characteristics of lungs between two animals have been accounted. D- Comparative characteristics of the liver: In this section, all anatomical and morphological characteristics of the liver between two animals have been extracted. Overall, results show noticeable differences in various parts of viscera between dog and sheep. The results of this research can be used as effective, fast and accurate way to differentiate dog and sheep viscera, even by ordinary people without anatomical expertise in cases of animal product adulteration purposes and religious demands.
