In recent years, nano-catalysts with carbon substrates, including carbon black, carbon nanofibers, graphene and nanotubes have been investigated as a useful and sustainable alternative catalyst substrate. [1-3]. In this work, the heterogeneous nanocatalyst, Cu- natural asphalt sulfonate (Cu-NASA) was synthesized using sulfonated natural asphalt. For the characterization of the synthesized catalyst used of different techniques such as FT-IR, TGA, XRD, ICP, BET, EDS and SEM. Then the activity of the catalyst successfully examined in the formation of C-C bond through knoevenagel condensation (scheme 1). The obtained products were identified using FT-IR, 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR techniques.
