چکیده Introduction : Heart failure (HF) is defined as a complex clinical syndrome that is introduced one of the most common cardiovascular disorders. Advances in cardiovascular research have identified oxidative stress as an important pathophysiological pathway in the development and progression of heart failure. In this study, the effect of gender difference on the antioxidant systems and lipid peroxidation products in animal model of heart failure disease were investigated. Material and Methods: 50 Wistar rats were randomly divided into 4 groups: male control group, female control group (no intervention was done in these two groups), male HF group, female HF group. HF groups received 130 mg/kg isoproterenol subcutaneously for four consecutive days. On the 28th day, all samples review for oxidative stress indices by assessment malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, glutathione (GSH) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) levels with ELISA method. Results: In the female heart failure group, SOD and GSH levels was higher than male heart failure group. Furthermore, the MDA levels was lower than in the female heart failure group compared with male heart failure group. Discussion and Conclusions: In the comparison between males and females in the heart failure model, a reduction in oxidative stress was seen in females. In addition the higher level of enzymatic antioxidant defenses enhancement was in female group found. characterization of the mechanisms that regulate molecular pathological processes in heart failure are highly complex, determining the gender differences in oxidative stress responses for understanding the physiologic function of the responses and for the development of new therapeutic modalities to defend and/or adapt to oxidant injury in cardiovascular disorders.
