A new dendrimer/copper (II) complex supported on hercynite magnetic nanoparticles: An efficient catalyst for the synthesis of tetrazoles

In this work, the design and fabrication of a new magnetic nanocarrier consisting of a copper-containing triazine dendrimer immobilized on FeAl 2 ◦ O 4 hercynite magnetic nanoparticles is presented. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed the dendrimer to possess good thermal stability with a decomposition onset temperature of approximately 205 C. Magnetic susceptibility studies indicated a magnetization saturation (MS) value of 11 emu/g for the dendrimer-coated FeAl 2 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles. The morphology of the spherical core-shell nanoparticles with an average size of 25 nm was determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). This nanocarrier demonstrates remarkable catalytic activity in the synthesis of 5-substituted 1H-tetrazoles from various organic nitriles and sodium azide. The presence of the dendrimer, rich in oxygen and nitrogen, acts as an effective ligand for the Cu (II) complex, enhancing its catalytic capability in these organic transformations. Furthermore, the magnetic nature of the nanocarrier allows for effortless separation from the reaction mixture and recycled up to five times. The reused catalyst was also characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern and scanning electron microscope (SEM) image analysis to investigate its stability and durability under the applied conditions.
