چکیده Background: The common buzzard (Buteo buteo) and Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca) have an important role in the ecological cycle of the north and the northwest parts of Iran. The current study aimed to report the number of ectoparasites of wild birds in Iran. Methods: In 2024, two species of wildlife birds (Common Buzzard and Eastern Imperial Eagle) were referred to the Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ilam University, due to broken wings. After undergoing treatment measures, external parasites were collected by visually inspecting the plumage and were subsequently preserved in 70% ethanol. Lice were cleared and slide-mounted in Canada balsam. Then they were examined and identified using a stereomicroscope. Results: In the study of isolated samples using diagnostic keys, infection with three species of chewing lice: Laemobothrion maximum in Aquila heliaca, and two other species, Craspedorrhynchus platystomus and Degeeriella fulva, from Buteo buteo, was identified in these birds from Ilam Province. Conclusion: Although the impact of lice depends on their number, a small number may not cause any problems, but characterizing and assessing parasite biodiversity will lay the foundation for future scientific breakthroughs.
