چکیده .This study investigates the importance of developing sustainable and efficient methods for converting hydrogen sulfide (H2S) into sulfur and hydrogen (H2) gas. This is driven by the increasing demand for H2 as a clean energy source and the environmental concerns associated with H2S, a toxic and corrosive gas. The current industrial process for H2S conversion, the Claus process, only partially addresses this issue by producing sulfur but no H2. The decomposition of H2S offers a promising solution to this problem, as it would allow for the simultaneous production of sulfur and H2. This could potentially replace the conventional method of H2 production, steam methane reforming, which is energy-intensive and has environmental drawbacks. The text notes that Alberta is particularly interested in this area of research due to its large oil sands processing industry, which requires significant amounts of H2. Using H2S as a source of H2 could help reduce the dependence on steam methane reforming and create a more sustainable and locally sourced H2 supply. The review paper aims to explore the various methods of H2S utilization, including partial oxidation, reformation, and decomposition techniques, and identify the most promising approaches for converting H2S to sulfur and H2 on an industrial scale. Currently, there are few technologies available that are suitable for this purpose, and the development of such technologies is the primary focus of the paper.
