چکیده The development of efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for water splitting, both for the H2 evolution reaction (HER) and for the O2 evolution reaction (OER), is of prime importance. For this purpose, PdCoNi and reduced graphene oxide supported PdCoNi (PdCoNi-rGO) trimetallic nanostructures were synthesized at the interface between toluene and water as efficient electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. The resulting electrocatalysts, utilizing an electronic nanostructure, offer rapid charge transfer, outstanding OER and HER activity in an alkaline electrolyte, and achieve an overpotential of -370 mV at a current density of 10 mA cm−2 for HER and 360 mV at 20 mA cm−2 for OER. Furthermore, an overall water-splitting device is assembled using two symmetric PdCoNi-rGO electrodes as the cathode and anode, which deliver a current density of 100 mA cm−2 at a cell voltage of 1.66 V. This study presents a suitable strategy for designing a trimetallic thin film as a water-splitting catalyst.
