Abstract

In the wood machining operation, choosing an appropriate machining strategy has a significant effect on the quality of the machined part. In the present research work, the influences of different machining strategies on surface quality of wooden products have been investigated, experimentally. For this purpose, three types of machining strategies, namely conventional milling offset, climb milling offset and raster has been employed and the effects of changing in spindle speed, feed rate, step-over and tool diameter parameters (each parameter in three levels) in different machining strategies on the surface quality of the produced product has been researched. The outcomes demonstrated that due to the remarkable reduction of force and vibration in the wood machining with raster strategy, the surface of the specimen machined with this strategy has a more favorable quality than that of conventional and climb milling offset in the similar experimental conditions. Also, the maximum surface quality improvement of the workpiece machined with the raster strategy compared to the conventional milling offset (about was achieved using a tool diameter of 6 mm.
