Abstract

Horizontal distribution of trees is the most important factor, which any knows about it, will help the forest managers to their programing and several activities. In this research, spatial variations of forest structural characteristics in a forest region of Ilam province, Iran, is investigated by geostatistics method. The study aim have been evaluation of forest structural characteristics continuity to determine of suitable stand area in natural and less destroyed forests of Zagross region. Dalab forest park in Ilam province which is less destroyed, selected for this study and a sample plot with area of 4 ha (200 * 200 m) determined. The plot then divided to 100 micro plots (with size of 20 * 20 m) and forest structural specifications within each micro plot were measured or calculated. The data then evaluated and tested for normality and by use of transformation methods try to obtain suitable normalization data. Finally, five variables: logarithm of Trunk length, crown area, logarithm of canopy, basal area, and standing volume, which have normal distributions, were selected to study of variograms. Results showed that most of studied variables have some continuity or spatial relations as several piles, and maximum range that presents the size of variable continuity, are between 40 to 90 meter, depend on structural characteristics. Maximum forest stand area based on basal area and standing volume as two important structural characteristics, evaluated about 2.5 to 3 ha.
