Abstract

Visible imaging has vast applications in assessment of agricultural materials due to excellent capability of cameras to image objects in visible spectrum instead of humans. Beside this, thermal and hyperspectral imaging are capable of recording information beyond the human vision ability. Image processing is considered as a beneficent tool to analyze the acquired images with high speed, accuracy, and repeatability while it decreases personnel required and thus cost of assessing different materials. Image processing has been applied in assessment of chickpea in plant cultivation, seed evaluation, and food processing stages such as monitoring plants in fields and detecting unripe and low-quality seeds and foreign materials. The color, textural, and morphological features of images captured from chickpea plant, seed, and food are extracted and analyzed by different prediction/classification methods. This chapter briefly describes chickpea and image processing and its applications in assessment of chickpea in different production stages including plants, seed, and food.
