Abstract

Air pollution is one of the major environmental problems that hazards and revelry effects on the natural environment, human-made environment, and human healthiness and activities. This phenomenon must be managed through monitoring and then conducting proper management strategies to remove it or minimize its negative effects. So, controlling air pollution is one of the vital duties of scientists and engineers. In this regard, monitoring air quality and detecting air pollution is the first step to having clean air. In this regard, imaging and image processing as low-cost, accurate, and reliable technologies have been applied to monitor and assess air quality. The purpose of the present chapter is to discuss ground and remote sensing based technologies in assessing air quality and detecting air pollution. In this chapter air pollution was briefly explained and then imaging and image processing and their applications in identifying and characterizing air pollution were discussed.
