Abstract

This work reports on the fabrication and in-depth performance assessment of a novel tri-component nanofluid, created by strategically combining nanoparticles, surfactants, and water-soluble polymers. This advanced formulation marks a notable progression in chemical enhanced oil recovery, specifically engineered to tackle key production challenges such as poor wettability and suboptimal extraction rates in complex reservoir geology. The resulting hybrid nanofluid was subjected to rigorous laboratory testing to quantify its effectiveness across key enhanced oil recovery parameters. The methodology included high-precision contact angle to track wettability changes, interfacial tension measurements using the pendant drop method, and core flood tests conducted under realistic reservoir. Long-term stability was verified through zeta potential analysis and gravimetric studies, confirming robust colloidal behavior without sedimentation. At an ideal loading of 160 pppm, the fluid induced profound interfacial changes. Wettability analysis showed a substantial transition from a strongly oil-wet surface at 139 degrees to a highly water-wet state at 21.43 degrees.
