An updated key is provided for the identification of 44 genera of Thripinae from Iran, together with a checklist of 161 recorded species, Ctenothrips kwanzanensis Takahashi is recorded from Iran for the first time, collected on flowers of Fritillaria imperialis (family Liliaceae). Morphological variation on abdominal tergites IX and X among C. kwanzanensis is discussed briefly. Anaphothrips microptera (Mirab-balou & Jamali) is synonymised with A. graminum Priesner.
