Proteus is the second most important bacteria in ur inary infection in human. This bacterium could be f ound frequent in intestinal tract of poultry. In slaughter house the contamination of poultry carcasses with intesti nal flora is normal when the poultry carcasses are put in the ch iller for washing and cooling. In the other hand di fferent antibiotics are used without antibiogram test in di fferent ages in poultry houses for treatment and pr evention of diseases. The role of animal for reservoir of resis tance bacteria is very important. In this study 54 proteus isolates were screened for antimicrobial susceptibility to 1 3 selected antimicrobial agents. No the proteus iso lates in this study were resistant to gentamycin. 96% of the isol ates were resistant to at least to two or more anti biotics. One isolates exhibiting resistance to ten antibiotics a nd three isolates resistance to nine and five isola tes resistance to seven anibiotics. The results showed that chicken c ould be a source of multiple antimicrobial-resistan t proteus and this bacteria can be a worldwide problem both for v eterinary and public health sectors.
