Soil contamination by organic and inorganic compounds is a universal concern nowadays. One such contamination is heavy metal expose to soil from different sources. Among them Cadmium and Lead are the most undesirable metals as not being useful for the living organisms. The objective of the study was to determine the impact of biochar amendment in two various soils containing heavy metals of Cadmium and Lead. The effect of biochar on the immobilization of metals was examined by monitoring aqua-regia and DTPA-extractable metal concentrations in the soils treated with the amendment. The lead concentration for the soil from north of Iran reduced by (82.3%) and (68.7%), respectively and for Ilam (South-west of Iran) soil it was reduced by (10.6%) and (95.6%) mg. kg−1, respectively. The cadmium concentration for the north soil reduced by (55.5%) and (53.4%), respectively and for Ilam soil it was decreased by (51.8%) and (51%), respectively. Generally, biochar application could be recommended as an appropriate amendment for in-situ remediation and immobilization of the heavy metals especially for lead and cadmium in contaminated soils.
