Abstract

This research describes the detection of Methylergonovine maleate (MM) based on molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) by electropolymerization technique for the first time. The MIP layer was polymerized on the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) surface through electropolymerization of dopamine (DA) monomer in the presence of an MM template. Moreover, the prepared sensor was investigated using electrochemical techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), differential pulse voltammetry (DPV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The limit of detection (LOD) of the sensor was 0.016 nM with a good linear range from 0.05 to 300 nM. The introduced sensor showed acceptable repeatability, stability, and reproducibility, and has admirable selectivity. The developed sensor was successfully applied to detect MM in the Methergin tablet and blood serum samples. The recovery range was from 98.8 to 102.3% which shows the usability of the sensor in the real samples. In addition, a high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was applied to measure the MM concentration as a standard and reference method in real samples.
