Abstract

The growth of nuclear industries leads to widespread uranium contamination. Uranium is a radioactive metal that has adverse health effects. Therefore, safe and selective determination of uranium in contaminated waters is essential. In this study, an electrochemical sensor was fabricated via the glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified by ꞵ-cyclodextrin electropolymerization (Pꞵ-CD) to detect U(VI). The proposed sensor was investigated via differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry (DPASV). A linear range was reported from 0.005 to 2000 nM with limit of detection (LOD) of 0.0017 nM. The modified electrode shows excellent selectivity in the presence of other possible interfering cations. Under optimal conditions, the designed sensor has acceptable repeatability, stability, and reproducibility. Finally, the modified GCE was used to detect U(VI) in wastewater sample with acceptable results. For applicability, the atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS) was used to detect the U(VI) amount as a reference method in the real sample.
