Abstract

A novel iron-based metal-organic framework (MOF) was synthesized via the solvothermal assembly of Fe(III) ions with 2,2′-bipyridine-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid and thiodiglycolic acid. This dual-ligand framework served as a robust heterogeneous scaffold for the immobilization of palladium species. Comprehensive characterizations, including FT-IR, XRD, TGA-DSC, EDX, ICP-OES, FE-SEM, TEM and BET analyses, shows the uniform distribution of Pd active sites throughout the MOF matrix, its highly crystalline structure and excellent thermal stability. The catalytic performance of the resulting [Fe-MOF@Pd] complex was evaluated in the Mizoroki–Heck reaction carbon–carbon cross-coupling reaction of various aryl halides including aryl iodides, bromides and chlorides with butyl acrylate. The catalyst exhibited exceptional activity and stability under green conditions, maintaining high performance over at least six consecutive cycles with negligible loss of efficiency. This dual-ligand strategy offers an efficient, eco-friendly, and versatile approach to designing high-performance Pd-loaded catalysts for Csingle bondC coupling applications.
