چکیده Investigating Merits, Demerits and the Extent of Iranian University Students’ Familiarity with Digital Portfolio Creation Tools during the COVID-19 Pandemic Mohammad Aliakbari*, Mahdieh Fakhar Shahreza Professor in Applied Linguistics, Ilam University, Ilam, Iran maliakbari@ilam.ac.ir Ph.D. Candidate in TEFL, Ilam University, Ilam, Iran Mfsh.tefl@gmail.com Mohammad Aliakbari*, Professor in Applied Linguistics, Ilam University, Ilam, Iran maliakbari@ilam.ac.ir ABSTRACT As the covid-19 pandemic worsened across the globe, educational system underwent drastic technologically changes. Most of the countries took basic strategies towards the integration of technologies in education and online learning. In ramping up capacity to teach and learn remotely, educational systems should benefit from asynchronous learning which works in digital formats. However, digitalization of education is highly dependent on the students’ and teachers’ familiarity with different Educational Technologies (ETs). Hence, the main purpose of this study was to scrutinize Iranian university students’ familiarity with the application of Digital Portfolio creation tools (DPCTs) in the learning process. In doing so, a researcher-made questionnaire was developed, validated and electronically distributed to collect the required data. The analyzed data revealed that the participants were significantly different regarding their level of familiarity with different types of DPCTs. However, all participants indicated highly positive attitudes towards the integration and application of DEF in their learning. It was further revealed that the participants’ familiarity levels with these kinds of ETs were not influenced by their educational levels and age-groups. Based on the findings, various implications for teachers, scholars, educational policy makers, and material developers are provided. Keywords: online learning, educational technologies, digital e-portfolios, covid-19 pandemic
