Abstract

This research is about the analysis of existing lenition and fortition processes in “five” Elami Kurdish variants such as: Arkavazi, Khezeli, Shirvani and Malekshahi with concentration on Elam province(Feily Kurdish)‌, on the basis of ‘generative theory’. The required data for this research has been extracted from: 1- interviewing with Elami Kurdish informants 2- the author herself as an Elami Kurdish informant and familiar with other Elami Kurdish variants 3- written sources and documents like books, articles, thesises, which have been written about these variants. The main goal of this research is to discover lenition and fortition phonological processes in Elami Kurdish variants. Some of the most important results of this research are: A. these vowels: /y/, /e/, // have been seen in Elami Kurdish variants. B. the glottal stop consonant // and glottal fricative consonant /h/ are borrowed from Arabic in Elami Kurdish variants and they don’t exist in the underlying structure of the original words of these variants. These consonants are borrowed from the Arabic language. C. the distribution of these consonants /h/, //,/b/ are incomplete in the Elami Kurdish variants. D. the back and round vowel /o/ is borrowed vowel in these variants and it just comes in the back and sonorant context. E. The consonant sequences in these variants turn to a simple consonant with deletion of a consonant.
