Abstract

Gamification has increasingly gained attention as a dynamic and engaging approach in language learning. Despite its growing application, there has been a lack of a valid and reliable instrument to assess language learners’ perceptions and experiences of gamified learning environments. The current study aimed to develop and validate the Language Learning through Gamification Scale (LLGS). The scale was constructed based on a comprehensive theoretical framework. It has two main phases, namely scale development and scale validation. The scale consisted of 4 main constructs, 12 sub-constructs, and 58 items. Data were collected via questionnaire from a sample of language learners and the result of using both Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) confirmed. The results of the SEM analyses showed significant relationships such that the model fit indices confirmed the existence of this relationship. This newly developed scale offers educators, researchers, and instructional designers a valuable tool for measuring the effectiveness and perception of gamified strategies in language education, ultimately contributing to the enhancement of learner engagement and academic success.
